Cocker Spaniel: the game retriever dog
The Cocker Spaniel, also called the English Cocker Spaniel, is a dog breed originally from Great Britain. It''s one of the main dog breeds in the list of retrievers, especially in the game retriever and water dog categories. Cocker Spaniels are descendants of a Spanish dog breed and appeared in the 14th century. At the time, they were used in net hunting. Cocker Spaniels are bush hunting dogs. They were trained to retrieve the game. In fact, there were trained from birth to adapt themselves to the woods, brambles, bushes and swamps. Physically, the Cocker Spaniel 15 to 16 inches tall. Their distinguishing characteristics are their long ears, relatively long hair and big eyes, which makes it a dog well-known for its intense gaze. Cocker Spaniel coats come in three colors. They can be a solid color in a chocolate shade. They can also be a color mixture of black and red or orange and white. And finally they can be tricolored.
These characteristics don''t stop the Cocker Spaniel from being an excellent companion. In fact, this is the case as long as you help it use up all it''s energy regularly and meet its feeding needs. Cocker Spaniels are food-lovers. They are also capable of eating anything. With a lot of energy, the Cocker Spaniel needs to run and go for walks everyday. If they don''t do this, they will take out their energy on the house. What''s more, it''s a loving and calm dog. They hate being left alone and can even prove to be a little bit clingy. That''s why they need to be trained from birth so that they learn to handle being left alone.
