Borzoi Home country: Russia

Original Name: Russkaya Psovaya Borzaya
Borzoi Adult - coat 1340000563
The Borzoi is also called the Russian Wolfhound, given its origin and belonging to the greyhound group. It is a large, very slender dog that also has a very thin head. Although it has a lot of power, it is a bit slower in races than its cousins.

The Borzoi has a rather calm personality, but is somewhat shy and aloof towards strangers. They are extremely attached to their masters, but may become aggressive towards those who annoy them—especially children.

What elegance! What nobility! What gracefulness! No words can describe this tall Greyhound with its sumptuous coat, aristocratic movements and undeniable beauty!

The Borzoi, symbol of the Russian Tsarina, also called the Russian Wolfhound or Russkaya Psovaya Barzaya, is a hunting dog worshiped by the big, noble families who were the only ones with the right to own one for hunting wolves. They nearly disappeared after the Russian revolution when the people hated anything that represented "nobility".

A favorite breed for Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, Nicolas II as well as for poets (Pushkin, Turgenev), this breed is now part of Russia''s heritage.

The Borzoi is a tall Greyhound (33 inches at the withers for 100 pounds) with a slender and thin head, a long muzzle, small ears lying back or raised in attention and big, hazel eyes that are very expressive.
Gracefully built for racing, they have long, muscular, straight legs with hare-shaped feet, perfect for high-speed races but also delicate enough for uneven terrain. Their predator instinct coupled with their extreme speed and wide strides makes it necessary to train them strictly. Even if it becomes friends with the house cat or rabbit, this isn''t the case for any game that happens to cross its path during walks!

Its coat is made of long, silky hair that varies in curliness and color (except blue or brown). Its hair is shorter on the head and thighs, its sickle-shaped tail is long and abundant in hair. Grooming its coat must be done everyday or twice a week at least.

Of a balanced and calm nature, the Borzoi is gentle and completely discreet and so they hardly ever bark, maybe never. They quickly get used to apartment living given that they are taken for long walks everyday to avoid nervous energy. Ideally, you should have a big garden with an enclosure to avoid any game intruding! However, their weak territory instinct makes them bad guard dogs. And given that they never bark...

A very intelligent dog, their training must be quick and entirely based on playing. If not, they will quickly get bored and as they are stubborn they will refuse to learn anything.

Companion, protection and hunting dog, as well as helping sick people, the Borzoi will win you over with its sumptuous beauty, class and extreme gentle nature.
