American Akita

Just as the Akita Inu, the American Akita originated in Japan, and more specifically on the island of Honshu. However, this breed really developed in the United States during the second half of the 20th century. The American Akita is a dog that is calm, loyal, and has a friendly temperament.

American Akitas resemble both Akita Inus and German Shepherds. They all have a very thick tail that curls over their backs. All coat colors are possible for this breed.
