German Shepherd Dog: the powerful guard dog
The German Shepherd Dog is a dog breed originally from Germany. Recognized by the Federation Cynologique Internationale a deutscher Schaferhund, it appeared towards the end of the 19th century.
The German Shepherd Dog - also known as an Alsatian - is a dog that sets itself apart by its look which is sporty and elegant. It is characterized by its coarse and dense coat, its black, brown, fawn or gray color, its brown eyes in the shape of almonds, its drooping thick tail, its straight ears and its dark black nose. Physically, the German Shepherd Dog is between 60 and 65 cm high and its weight varies between 30 and 35 kilos.
The German Shepherd Dog is an obedient dog. It distinguishes itself by its incredible intelligence. Even though it's a perfect companion animal, the German Shepherd Dog is not an inside dog. It loves being outside in wide open spaces where it can have fun. It's really sporty and feels the need to exercise regularly. The German Shepherd Dog is often used as a guard dog. In fact, since 1978, its nature has made it a real guard dog for herds of animals as well as for a master's belongings. As an adult, the German Shepherd Dog becomes very affectionate especially towards its master and family. It accompanies its master everywhere and instinctively attaches itself to children and protects them from strangers. Well educated, the bonding between a German Shepherd Dog and its master happens very easily.
